As I have previously discussed, finding quality group homes in New Jersey is often more difficult than it should be. This issue directly correlates to a case I am currently litigating.
Too Little Too Late
Perkins Lane Group Home in Burlington County, New Jersey is set to close long after deficiencies were reported during a state inspection. Although the group home claims to be closing due to staffing shortages, the closing was not announced until allegations of the abuse and neglect of one of their residents were being investigated. I am defending that resident, Brandon Quesada, seeking justice if these allegations are proven true. Brandon, a 22-year-old with autism is also non-verbal, a trait shared by many people diagnosed with autism. This is yet another reason why I am such a strong supporter of Billy Cray’s Law, which if passed will require group homes to install cameras in common areas including entrances, living areas, dining areas, stairwells, and outdoor areas, at the request of their residents.
